Δρ Γεώργιος Ζαχαράκης

Ο  Γεώργιος Ζαχαράκης είναι διακεκριμένος ιατρός και ακαδημαϊκός στον τομέα της Γαστρεντερολογίας και Ηπατολογίας, με σημαντική διεθνή επιστημονική και ερευνητική δραστηριότητα.

Κατέχει πτυχία BSc στη Μικροβιολογία (University of Leeds, 1994), MSc στη Μοριακή Γενετική (St Mary’s Medical School, Imperial College University of London, 1995), Πτυχίο Ιατρικής (Δημοκρίτειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θράκης, 2000 ) και διδακτορικό PhD στην Ηπατολογία ( Εθνικό και Καποδιστριακό Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών, 2005), ενώ έχει ειδικευτεί στην Παθολογία και Ηπατολογία ( Ιπποκράτειο Γενικό Νοσοκομείο Αθηνών), στη Γαστρεντερολογία (251Γενικό Νοσκομείο Αεροπορίας ), εξειδικευτεί στην Επεμβατική ενδοκσόπηση (Γενικό Νοσκοκομείο Ευαγγελισμός) και είναι πιστοποιημένος στο Ευρωπαϊκού Συμβουλίου Γαστρεντερολογίας και Ηπατολογίας (EBGH 2010).

Από το 2015 υπηρετεί ως επισκέπτης Καθηγητής και Σύμβουλος Γαστρεντερολογίας & Ηπατολογίας σε πανεπιστήμια στην μέση Ανατολή, όπου συμμετέχει ενεργά σε εκπαιδευτικές, κλινικές και ερευνητικές δραστηριότητες . Προηγουμένως διετέλεσε καθηγητής στο Πανεπιστήμιο Λευκωσίας της Κύπρου (University of Nicosia, Medical School) και διευθυντής ενδοσκοπικής μονάδας Γενικό Νοσοκομείο Λεμεσού στην Κύπρο, καθώς και συνεργάτης πανεπιστημιακών νοσοκομείων στην Ελλάδα.

Το επιστημονικό του έργο επικεντρώνεται κυρίως στη μελέτη των προκαρκινικών αλλοιώσεων του πεπτικού συστήματος (πρόληψη καρκίνου πεπτικού), στα φλεγμονώδη νοσήματα του εντέρου, των ηπατίτιδων, καθώς και στις λειτουργικές διαταραχές του πεπτικού συστήματος. Έχει συμβάλει ουσιαστικά στην κατανόηση της επιδημιολογίας και της πρόληψης των γαστρεντερολογικών νοσημάτων, ενώ έχει δημοσιεύσει μεγάλο αριθμό ερευνητικών άρθρων σε διεθνή επιστημονικά περιοδικά και έχει συμμετάσχει σε πολυάριθμα συνέδρια.

Η ερευνητική και ακαδημαϊκή του πορεία συνοδεύεται από σημαντικές διακρίσεις και χρηματοδοτήσεις τόσο σε ευρωπαϊκό όσο και σε διεθνές επίπεδο, γεγονός που αναδεικνύει τη συμβολή του στην πρόοδο της σύγχρονης ιατρικής επιστήμης
